How To Add Interactive Quizzes To Your Kindle Book

Kindle Quiz I am really excited to share this Kindle Tutorial with you because VERY FEW authors are using this cool little interactive method of including quizzes inside their books!

For the past few months, we have been testing this in various books and it has been working incredibly well. We have received lots of awesome feedback from our readers that we never even expected to hear.

In this tutorial, I will be teaching you how to include interactive quizzes and questions and answers within your Kindle books. This method is perfect for creating test prep guides and things like that HOWEVER, there are MANY other uses that are even more powerful and that EVERY author should be testing out. I’ll talk about one of the best below, which is creating alternate story-lines and endings, based on reader choice.

How It Works:

You can have a question (or questions) or alternate endings with different choices that your reader can choose. When a choice is clicked on, it will take them to a specific page inside your Kindle book that you determine. They don’t have to be connected to the internet and they never leave you book. This method also works on ALL Kindle Devices and Apps so it doesn’t matter if they are reading your book on a Kindle device, iPad, computer, or Kindle App!

In this example, I am showing a question with 3 possible answers. The reader can click on the 3 answers but only 1 answer is correct. This is what it looks like when they click on an incorrect answer:

The image above is a page that I created in my Kindle book and I hyper-linked it to the exact answer that they clicked on. There is also a hyperlink that you can see in the image above that when clicked on, will take them directly back to the question that they answered incorrectly.

When they actually click on the correct answer, they are hyper-linked to the page confirming the correct answer:

The hyperlink that you see in the image above will take the reader to the NEXT question, instead of back to the original question, since they chose the right answer.

Creating Alternate Story-Lines & Endings:

The real power in this isn’t just about creating quizzes and interactivity in your Kindle books, but creating alternate story-lines and alternate endings. This is HUGE because nobody is doing this on Amazon.

Imagine creating a book with an alternate ending, or 2 different story-lines based on it’s main character, and letting your READER decide which way to go with the story….now THAT is interactivity! THAT is powerful. We have been trying the alternate endings and it’s been working really well. I highly recommend you try it out, especially since it’s free to do.

How It’s Done:

I show you exactly how to create an interactive quiz for your Kindle book in the video below. I am using our Kindle Template and using Microsoft Word to make it happen. The method is this:

    • Ask a question and insert a bookmark for that question
    • Choose how many possible answers you want to have and enter those answer choices in
    • Create a separate page for each answer (correct and incorrect) or, they can all be on the same page. These pages can be at the end of the book if you like
    • Set a bookmark for each answer page and create a hyperlink on the wrong answer pages that goes back to the original question and a hyperlink on the correct answer page to the next question or chapter
    • Insert hyperlinks (under the question) to each answer page

It really isn’t that hard to do, but should be much easier to understand when you watch how it’s done in the video below.

Like I said above, nobody else is really doing this and I highly recommend you try it out. I’d love to hear your results and feedback on this!

Here is the step-by-step how to video:

I would like to know if I can add in my quiz space to fill or to answer questions without multi choices.

      Jean,
Great question! You definitely do not have to have multiple choice quizzes, you can have just 1 answer or space for them to type something in themselves as well. Lots of great options will work!

doesn’t this create so many additional pages.
thanks for sharing by the way

No problem! It doesn’t have to create a bunch of extra pages, it’s just a matter of how many quizzes you would want to add. You could have many different questions on the same page.
