How To Change or Edit A Kindle Book You Have Already Published

We get this question all the time:

“How do I make changes to my Kindle Ebook when it is already published on Amazon?”

Luckily, it’s quick and easy to do. I’ll list the steps to edit books published on Amazon and you can also watch how easy it is in my video below.

1. Login to the KDP Publishing website and go to your “Bookshelf”

2. On the left side, select your book and click on “Actions” and then “Edit Book Details”

3. Scroll down to the sections for editing/uploading your Book Cover and/or Book File and upload the new version.

That’s all there is to it!

A Few Key Points:

When your book is published, you can always go back in and make changes. You can change your book cover and/or make changes to the book itself. Many authors go in and correct spelling or formatting issues, image sizing issues, you can remove text, add text, change text, you can pretty much change anything that is in your book which is a good thing!

Important: Once you make the changes and re-upload your new file, it usually takes 24-48 hours for the changes to take affect on Amazon. During that time, your book will STILL be sold on Amazon and the original version of the book file or cover will show up.

In your KDP Bookshelf, your book will say it’s “under review” but don’t worry, it will still be “LIVE” and selling on Amazon during that process!

One last thing…After the 24-48 hours, your edited version will be the version of the book that is delivered to all new buyers. If you’ve made significant changes and want everyone who has already purchased and downloaded your book to received the new version, you will have to use the “Contact Us” link on Amazon’s KDP page and let them know.

I’d like to perform minor edits to the book I published on the Kindle (in 2012) however, as there are several graphics within, I’m not fond of uploading an entirely new file. The graphics were difficult for me to get just right as the formats that were accepted varied so much and per image.

How can I make (mostly) grammatical changes absent uploading a new file?

Great question Loraine! There isn’t a way to upload changes to a book without uploading the entire book file. You should be able to just edit the text though, and leave the graphics as-is and not have any problems.
