Advanced Citations and Footnotes For The Kindle

Kindle FootnotesIn a previous blog post, I showed you how to create Citations and Footnotes for your Kindle books. It’s super easy to do and really enhances the readability of your book. Now, it’s time to take it to the next level.

Once you have some citations and footnotes, you might want to make it easy for your reader to go from the footnote, back to where they were reading before clicking on the citation. To do this, we basically reverse the process and the citation becomes the footnote and the footnote becomes the citation. Confused yet? lol. Don’t worry, it’s super easy and MUCH easier to show on video so I shot a quick video showing you how it’s done.

Watch below:

How To Remove Table of Contents From Open Office Kindle Template

Remove TOC Open Office Kindle While a click-able Table of Contents is great, not everyone always wants one and we recently had one of our awesome customers how he could remove the TOC page from the Open Office version of our Kindle Template.

In Microsoft Word, it’s really easy, you just hit the delete button but it doesn’t work that way in Open Office. I’ve recorded a quick video below to show you how to remove the Table of Contents in Open Office. For those who prefer text over video, you right click on the table and then select “delete index/table, and that will remove it.

Hope that helps!! Click the video below to watch:

Kindle Book Cover Graphic Tricks

Since we create Pre-Made Kindle Book Covers and also have a Course on how to make your own ebook covers, we get lots of questions about graphics and how to do certain things. The most common question we get is how can you cut something out of one image, and place it in another image.

For example, in the image below, I’ll cut one of the pumpkins out:

Now that we’ve cut that pumpkin out, we can use it in a completely different image, even on an Ebook cover! Here is an example:

If you haven’t guessed, the woman in this image was NOT originally holding a big pumpkin lol. In fact, there was no pumpkin in this image at all:

I was able to paste the pumpkin in there with a totally clear and transparent background and make it look like it was there to begin with!

How did I do it?

With a little help from my favorite graphics software program – Photoshop Elements and a few tricks with the quick selection tool. You can also use a free image editor like Gimp.

This Kindle Book Cover Graphics trick is a great way to get that PERFECT look for your book covers. You can see exactly how I do it by watching my new video below:

How To Write Books That People Will Actually Buy!

One of the biggest mistakes that authors and entrepreneurs make when choosing a topic for the book they want to write is to choose their topic out of thin air or from what they “think” their audience will want to read about. How To Write Books That Sell

It’s no wonder that 95% of books out there don’t sell very well.

Do you want that to be YOUR next book? No, of course not, let’s make sure that doesn’t happen then 🙂

How to write a book that people want to read and BUY:

When planning your next book, you will be ahead of 99% of the other authors and entrepreneurs out there if you specifically research and write on a topic that people are searching for and wanting to read about.

One of the best tools you can use for that is….

Google Trends

Yes, Google Trends is AMAZING. Nobody has more search data than Google and the information they share on Google Trends (when used correctly) is like GOLD! I’m surprised that very few authors use this tool to plan their next Kindle book. My guess is that most people don’t know about this or don’t realize how powerful it can be.

In my video below, I will show you how Google Trends works and how I use it to research and plan my upcoming books as well as books that I work with clients on.

Here is a great example of how you can use the Google Trends Tool For Ebook Research:

Google Trends for Kindle research

Let’s say you were going to write a book about dogs and you were going to research and choose a specific breed of dog to write about. You could use Google Trends to see which breeds are the most searched breeds in the world overall.

Then, you could even kick that up a notch and see what is TRENDING recently. If you were to choose a breed that gets lots of searches AND is trending up for searches recently, you know that you’ve got a great audience who is already searching for information on your topic. You’ve put yourself ahead of most authors who just choose topics out of thin air.

This method works for both Fiction and Non-Fiction. When you write about what people are actively searching for the most, you WILL SELL MORE BOOKS!

P.S. I’ve created a page that will always have the updated list of the most searched for books in the world.

How To Change or Edit A Kindle Book You Have Already Published

We get this question all the time:

“How do I make changes to my Kindle Ebook when it is already published on Amazon?”

Luckily, it’s quick and easy to do. I’ll list the steps to edit books published on Amazon and you can also watch how easy it is in my video below.

1. Login to the KDP Publishing website and go to your “Bookshelf”

2. On the left side, select your book and click on “Actions” and then “Edit Book Details”

Change Kindle Published Books

3. Scroll down to the sections for editing/uploading your Book Cover and/or Book File and upload the new version.

(Notice my nice orange arrows for Halloween?!!)

That’s all there is to it!

A Few Key Points:

When your book is published, you can always go back in and make changes. You can change your book cover and/or make changes to the book itself. Many authors go in and correct spelling or formatting issues, image sizing issues, you can remove text, add text, change text, you can pretty much change anything that is in your book which is a good thing!

Important: Once you make the changes and re-upload your new file, it usually takes 24-48 hours for the changes to take affect on Amazon. During that time, your book will STILL be sold on Amazon and the original version of the book file or cover will show up.

In your KDP Bookshelf, your book will say it’s “under review” but don’t worry, it will still be “LIVE” and selling on Amazon during that process!

One last thing…After the 24-48 hours, your edited version will be the version of the book that is delivered to all new buyers. If you’ve made significant changes and want everyone who has already purchased and downloaded your book to received the new version, you will have to use the “Contact Us” link on Amazon’s KDP page and let them know.
